Mary Spaar Putrasahan

Mary Spaar Putrasahan would rather be a mouse. Specifically a mouse in a picture book, preferably one who wears rose petal petticoats and lives in a tree stump. Unfortunately scientists have not figured out the whole body-switching thing yet, so Mary pivoted to storytelling. Contrary to what the mouse thing might imply, she does not write (or paint) many mice. Most of her work is people-centric secondary-world fantasy for middle graders, inspired by deep loves for justice, interracial families, weird magic systems, and all things celestial. She always writes with a large mug of earl grey on hand and always paints with a posture that would make her former ballet teacher nauseous.

After studying absolutely nothing related to writing or illustration at Belmont University, Mary and her husband packed up their two cats and moved to Washington DC; where they’ve surprised themselves by putting down roots. When not writing or painting, she spends her time reading thick fantasy books, attempting to tame her hair, overworking her KitchenAid mixer, or taking customer service complaints from her benevolent feline dictators.
