Amy Young

Amy Young knew she wanted to be an artist when she was three. She studied fine art at Yale and Indiana University; she also went to Harvard Law School and practiced civil rights law for a time. Eventually she came to realize that her true passion and real talent lay in creating funny, quirky, and heartwarming stories for children. She has been doing just that for over 20 years.

Amy’s best-selling books include the five-book series A Unicorn Named Sparkle, about a mail-order unicorn, and the four-book series Belinda the Ballerina, about a graceful ballerina who has enormous feet. Amy has also illustrated books by other authors, including The Three Little Guinea Pigs by Erica Pearl.

Of the many awards, accolades, and invitations Amy has garnered for her work, the most meaningful was her visit to China, where the Belinda series was hugely popular. During her stay Amy was featured on a popular nationwide podcast, was a keynote speaker at a massive literary conference in Beijing, and met with scads of educators, parents, and children.
