Sarah L. Thomson
Sarah L. Thomson has published more than fifty books, including prose and poetry, fiction and nonfiction, picture books and novels, along with graphic fiction and nonfiction. Her work includes a lively fantasy featuring a baby griffin, a poetic exploration of Paul Revere’s ride, an adaptation of material from the renowned NPR StoryCorps program, and nonfiction about elephants, sharks, saber-toothed cats, and other fascinating creatures.
School Library Journal announced that Sarah’s picture book Cub’s Big World is “a big must-have,” and The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books described her novel Deadly Flowers as “clever, dangerous, vivacious.” This fantasy set in feudal Japan won Wisconsin’s Elizabeth Burr/Worzalla award. Kirkus Reviews said that “readers will treasure the blossoming friendship between opposites” in Sarah’s humorous chapter book, Two Friends, One Dog, and a Very Unusual Week, which was a Junior Literary Guild selection. Sarah’s novel Mercy, based on a historical vampire incident, was named one of the best YA fiction books of the year by Barnes and Noble.
Sarah worked as an editor at HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster before becoming a full-time writer. She lives in Portland, Maine.
