Frané Lessac

Frané Lessac was born in New Jersey but has travelled extensively throughout her life, which has enabled her to create books based on her worldwide journeys. Attracted by its beauty, she moved to the small Caribbean island of Montserrat, which inspired her first picture book, MY LITTLE ISLAND (HarperCollins), a Reading Rainbow featured title. Since then, she has written and/or illustrated over 50 books, including the multi-award-winning WE ARE GRATEFUL: OTSALIHELIGA by Traci Sorell. Some of her most recent books include A IS FOR AUSTRALIAN REEFS (Walker Books Australia), MEET ME AT THE BIG GALAH (Scholastic Press), and TREASURE ISLANDS (Thames and Hudson). Frané has spent the last 4 decades creating prominent stories that celebrate, empower, and inspire young children to discover their unique heritage and cultures beyond their own. Frané visits schools, libraries and festivals around the world, sharing the process of writing and illustrating books. She presently lives in Western Australia with her husband, children’s book author Mark Greenwood.
