Ryan O'RourkeRyan O’Rourke grew up in Windsor, Connecticut, where he discovered his passion for drawing and storytelling in elementary school. He developed his talents through high school and college, beginning his career as a freelance illustrator in 2001. Early on, the majority of his work was editorial, working for clients such as The Boston Globe, The Wall Street Journal, The LA Weekly, and many more. Ryan made the jump into children’s publishing in 2008, illustrating his first book, ONE BIG RAIN, for Charlesbridge Publishing. Since then, he has illustrated many more books, including MOUSELING’S WORDS by Shutta Crum (Clarion, 2016), ALPHABET TRAINS, written by Samantha R. Vamos (Charlesbridge, 2017), and READ! READ! READ! by Amy Ludwig VanderWater (Boyds Mills, 2017). Ryan also wrote and illustrated BELLA: LOST AND FOUND (HarperCollins, 2014), with a sequel in the works. Ryan’s work has been recognized by The Society of Illustrators, SILA, 3×3 Magazine, and The Connecticut Art Director’s Club.Ryan lives in Manchester, New Hampshire, with his wife, daughter, and cats. He teaches illustration at The New Hampshire Institute of Art.
