Lita Judge

Judge - headshotLita Judge was born in Alaska. Her father was a soil scientist, so her family moved to many remote places throughout the West, and she spent summers with her grandparents, renowned ornithologists. It is no surprise, therefore, that the natural world plays such a big role in Lita’s books. After working as a geologist for a number of years, Lita pursued her true passion: art. She has illustrated several books written by other authors, but it is the books she has written and illustrated herself that have brought her the most satisfaction to date. ONE THOUSAND TRACINGS was the 2008 Winner of the IRA Children’s Book Award, an ALA Notable book, and a 2008 Jane Addams Children’s Book Award Honor. BORN TO BE GIANTS was an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Medal Winner. Her books have appeared on Best Books of the Year lists by New York Public Library, the Smithsonian, and IRA Teacher’s Choice, and have been named to numerous state reading lists. Breaking from her nonfiction roots, Lita took a whimsical turn in 2011 with RED SLED (Atheneum, 2011), which was quickly followed up by companion title RED HAT (Atheneum, 2013), and soon after by FLIGHT SCHOOL (Atheneum, 2014), which has been licensed in French, Dutch and Azerbaijani, and most recently, GOOD MORNING TO ME (Atheneum, 2015).  Keep at an eye for HOOT AND PEEP, which will delight you when it publishes in 2016. She lives in New Hampshire with her husband, Dave.
