Tracey Fern grew up wishing she could become Nancy Drew or Harriet the Spy or perhaps Jo March. When those things didn’t happen, she decided to become a writer. Her debut children’s book, PIPPO THE FOOL, received starred reviews from Booklist and School Library Journal and was named a Booklist Top 10 Historical Fiction for Youth in 2009, a 2009 Notable Social Studies Trade Book for Young People, and a 2009 ABC Best Book for Children. Her second book, BUFFALO MUSIC, received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and School Library Journal and was named an ALA 2009 Notable Children’s Book, a School Library Journal Best Book of 2008, and the winner of the 2008 Naylor Award for the Best Book for Children on Texas History. Tracey’s third book, BARNUM’S BONES, received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, and School Library Journal and was a Booklist Top 10 Biography for Youth 2013, a 2013 National Science Teachers Association Outstanding Science Trade Book for Students, and a Texas Bluebonnet Award nominee, as well as a nominee for many other state book awards. Her fourth book, DARE THE WIND, received starred reviews from Kirkus Reviews and Publishers Weekly and was an ALA 2014 Notable Children’s Book and a 2015 Amelia Bloomer Project nominee. Her fifth book, W IS FOR WEBSTER, published in 2015 and received a starred review from School Library Journal. Two additional picture books are forthcoming.
