April Pulley Sayre
April Pulley Sayre loves wild words and wild nature. Her read-aloud picture books are known for their lyricism, playfulness, and scientific precision. She is an award-winning author of more than 60 books for preschoolers through adults. Her picture book VULTURE VIEW, illustrated by Steve Jenkins, received a Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor, and their recent collaboration, EAT LIKE A BEAR, was named an ALA Notable Book. STARS BENEATH YOUR BED: THE SURPRISING STORY OF DUST received the AAAS/SB&F/Subaru Prize for Excellence in Science Books and an ALA Notable. ONE IS A SNAIL, TEN IS A CRAB was an ALA Notable Book and a BCCB Blue Ribbon Book, and received Britain’s highest literacy award. THE BUMBLEBEE QUEEN marked her third win of the John Burroughs Award. She has also photo-illustrated six books, including RAH, RAH, RADISHES: A VEGETABLE CHANT and RAINDROPS ROLL (Beach Lane/S&S), which earned starred reviews from Kirkus, SLJ, and Publishers Weekly. A companion book, BEST IN SNOW, is due from Beach Lane in 2016. When she’s not photographing rain forests, wetlands, or coral reefs, April and her ecologist husband are at home tending their midwest native plant garden.
